A race with some major twists at the end with Charles Leclerc’s retirement due to an accident, but dominated by Kimi Antonelli, who wins his fifth consecutive Grand Prix ahead of Hamilton and Hadjar. Despite a great qualifying in second position, Max Verstappen retires after only one lap completed in the race, with Red Bull and McLaren facing serious reliability issues.
Top
Kimi Antonelli: we had asked ourselves in Canada whether Kimi actually had the nerves of steel to continue his run, and the young Italian answered present with an Ayrton Senna performance: a hat-trick with pole, fastest lap, and victory. A performance worthy of the greatest.
Lewis Hamilton: another top weekend for the British Lion, who takes a top 3 both on Saturday and Sunday. The 5-second penalty received for speeding in the pit lane, which almost forces him to give up second place to Charles Leclerc, is canceled by a safety car caused by a Stroll accident, which then leads to a Charles Leclerc incident.
Pierre Gasly: one of the most in-form drivers of 2026, Gasly continues to perform miracles, finishing seventh to the delight of Briatore’s Alpine, taking advantage of the mistakes and penalties of other drivers, including Leclerc and Russell.
FLOP
Red Bull: gives hope on Saturday with Hadjar in 5th position and Verstappen in 2nd. During the race, Verstappen immediately experiences a problem caused by the electric power delivery. Hadjar finishes 4th but complains of front tire degradation issues and gearbox problems when engaging first gear.
Lando Norris: in 2025 he was winning dominantly, this year in qualifying he suffers against Piastri, who as a qualifier is worse than him, and then badly loses his position in the race even to Gasly. Finally, he retires due to a technical problem.
George Russel: an average weekend, if not for the final penalty that forces him to finish the race outside the points zone. He loses another 25 points to Antonelli.
